Thousands of Palms Framing the Promenade
It offers a decidedly exotic landscape, characterized by thousands of palm trees interspersed with oleanders displaying colorful inflorescences. Walking along the 5 km promenade, one of the most beautiful and suggestive in Europe, one fully understands why this place has always been called “the Riviera delle Palme.” The original core of the “marina” dates back to the 17th century, while it is in the “upper town” that this dynamic tourist resort rediscovers its historical dimension with its two oldest monuments: the singular Gualtieri Tower in the shape of a ship’s prow, and the Abbey of San Benedetto, built on the site of the original tomb of the Christian martyr Benedict (October 13, 304 AD).
San Benedetto del Tronto:
where history and relaxation meet
Visiting the Fish Museum, the Museum of Maritime Civilization, and the beautiful collection of ancient Roman amphorae, along with the fishing port and its adjacent tourist marina, clearly shows how important the sea has been here. The numerous sports infrastructures, the palm-lined cycling path, the sports arena (palasport), the convention center (palacongressi), a busy calendar of events and leisure opportunities, as well as many possible excursions into the Piceno hinterland, make San Benedetto an ideal place, capable of evoking profound and pleasant emotions.
